National Sweater Day

Today is one of my favourite days on the calendar. No, it isn’t my Birthday or the start of a short break to the Norwegian Fjords or even the night of St. Lawrence (where people gather outside gazing up at the sky in the hope of seeing a shooting star). It’s Sweater Day!

A day that this special garment is honoured by the whole world. You can always rely on its warm embrace that comes in many different shapes and colours and already this is enough to make me love it. Moreover, I have wonderful memories when it comes to the word sweater. When I was a baby and also a little girl my mum would make the most amazing sweaters for me. Colourful ones with fabric inserts or wooden buttons, and you know what the best thing was? I was the only one who had them and I felt so special. It didn’t matter where I was, when I wore them, it was as if my mum was taking care of me, even away from home.

Sweater Day started out in Canada for a very specific cause and was assigned the worthy task of getting people to think and talk about energy consumption. Backed up by the WWF, Sweater Day encourages all of us to don our coziest wool sweater and turn the heating down. Wear more, pollute less. Now that makes me appreciate this day even more!

To celebrate Sweater Day properly, we’ve got some brand-new projects for you!

The first free tutorial we recommend is a sweater with cable bobble stitch. We decided to make it using a 100% merino wool yarn, or rather, Piuma. Perfect for snuggling up in during the winter.

The second tutorial we suggest is a super cozy high neck sweater, made with Alpaca, Cyrcus and Sierra yarn. A lovely slightly oversized, warm and fluffy sweater.

Aren’t they just amazing?

So I think we can safely say there are no excuses not to celebrate Sweater Day. We’ve put forth the projects now it’s over to you. I can’t wait to see photos of your sweaters!

Until next time!
