PREFELT 80% WOOL 20% TENCEL 120 G/M

Code 9032

Wool and tencel. A pet friendly revolution!

Price range: $33.77 through $851.63

Pre-felt is an already partially felted wool base designed to make it easier and faster to create felt projects. Unlike staple carded wool, it has a compact but still workable structure, allowing precise shapes to be cut, decorations to be created, and layers to be overlaid before completing the felting. Because of its stability and lightness, pre-felt is especially popular for making decorative panels, accessories, three-dimensional elements, and water or needle felting work.

Wool/Tencel pre-felt was created by combining the softness and feltability of merino wool with the innovative qualities of Tencel, a fiber of plant origin obtained from wood cellulose. Tencel was chosen as an alternative to silk because of its high environmental sustainability and pet friendly nature, while maintaining a soft hand, good durability and pleasant surface brightness. This combination results in a versatile and contemporary material that is ideal for creative projects that require comfort, aesthetic performance and attention to environmental impact.

The merino wool and Tencel composition combines two fibers with complementary characteristics, creating a balanced, high-performance material. Wool imparts structure, elasticity and excellent felting ability, while Tencel brings softness, lightness and a smooth, gently glowing surface. This combination results in a prefelt that is pleasant to the touch, durable and stable in processing.

Our extra fine merino wool tops come from selected South American farms particularly from countries such as Argentina, Uruguay and Chile, areas with a long tradition of sheep farming and high quality standards in textile fiber production. In these regions, the practice of mulesing is not widespread and, in fact, merino wool is naturally mulesing-free. This means that animals are raised according to methods that do not involve this intervention, thanks in part to local climatic and environmental conditions that reduce the risk of parasitic infestations responsible for its introduction in other areas of the world.

Tencel is a plant-derived fiber made in Europe from wood cellulose, generally from responsibly managed forests. It is made through a technologically advanced process that transforms the natural raw material into a soft, strong and uniform fiber, using a quasi-closed-loop system that allows much of the resources used to be recovered and reused. This renewable origin and controlled production method make Tencel a modern and conscious choice, valued for its quality, reliability and attention to environmental impact.

Our merino wool is mulesing-free, meaning it comes from farms that do not practice mulesing, a surgical procedure used in some areas of the world to prevent parasitic infestations in sheep. The choice to use wool from supply chains that exclude this practice reflects a concern for animal welfare and more responsible farm management.

Tencel™ is produced by Lenzing AG, a leading Austrian manufacturer of sustainable fibers, which guarantees a fully transparent and certified supply chain. The eucalyptus wood used comes from forests managed according to FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council) or PEFC™ criteria, which ensure responsible cultivation practices without illegal logging and with respect for local ecosystems. The entire production chain-from raw material to finished fiber-is certified and traceable, offering the consumer the guarantee of a product made with respect for the environment and the highest ethical standards.

The dyes used for our products meet the requirements of the OEKO-TEX standard, which ensures the control and limitation of substances potentially harmful to human health and the environment.

Fiber dyeing is carried out in our dyehouse in Italy, in compliance with current European regulations on chemicals and environmental safety, including the REACH Regulation (EC no. 1907/2006), which governs the registration, evaluation, authorization and restriction of chemicals.
Operating within the European Union also entails compliance with additional environmental protection and textile safety regulations, such as the CLP Regulation (EC no. 1272/2008) on the classification, labeling and packaging of substances and mixtures. This regulatory framework ensures that dyeing processes are conducted according to high standards of safety, traceability and environmental responsibility, providing a reliable product for both the end user and the environment.

Our extra fine merino wool prefelt is perfect for needle felting.needle felting and forwater felting.

Since colors may vary depending on your monitor or device settings, we recommend purchasing our Color Card to check the shades in person before placing your final order. Want to check the quality of the material? Choose our Sample Box.

CAUTION: All of our colors generally exhibit high lightfastness and fastness to washing. However, fluorescent colors (80's collection), in addition to having a lower lightfastness, may also suffer significant color loss in the presence of alkaline or particularly aggressive soaps, as well as with prolonged processing or washing. This phenomenon can occur, to varying degrees, even with dark and particularly bright colors. For materials dyed with these shades, we always recommend that a preliminary processing and washing test be carried out on a small sample before making the final design. This precaution is essential, especially when dyed materials are combined with unbleached or light-colored fibers.
Finally, to best preserve the colors, it is recommended that artifacts not be dried in direct sunlight, but in a shady place.
