Charleston is a yarn that interprets plant material in a scenic and contemporary way, where cotton meets the luster ofacetate and lamé yarn, resulting in a vibrant and richly reflective surface. Its coiled and twisted construction creates a balance between structure and movement, with a dynamic visual effect that changes according to the light. The plant component provides a natural and stable base, while the acetate fiber adds fluidity and color depth, and the lamé introduces a controlled shine that is never excessive but always sophisticated. The result is a yarn that works on the duality between natural and precious, between textile material and light. Charleston is designed for projects where the yarn is not just a technical support, but an expressive element: a material that builds textures and reflections with a strong aesthetic identity.
It also has a very good yield because with only 50 g / 1.76 oz you can create a fantastic clutch bag

Raw materials used in DHG's yarns are selected and purchased from areas of the world where each specific fiber expresses the best natural and performance qualities. Depending on the type, the fibers come from vocated and traditionally specialized regions, chosen to ensure high standards of purity, fineness and textile performance. Once selected, the fibers enter a transformation process that combines technical expertise and artisanal savoir-faire. In fact, yarns such as Charleston are made through painstaking twisting, largely carried out with a still highly artisanal approach in the textile district of Prato, a historic international center for fiber processing.
This balance between global sourcing and local processing allows the characteristics of each fiber to be maximized, resulting in yarns that combine quality, identity and manufacturing tradition.

The Charleston is worked with rather thin needles and crochet hooks. It can also be worked on a frame.

With needles: beautiful both shaved knit and more worked stitches, both raised and pierced. Knitting with needles is complex because it cannot keep straight but tends to become slanted. Therefore, we recommend shaping the finished pieces with pins and steaming until you get the desired result.

Withcrochet: with crochet stitches the work manages to hold the yarn in the correct position. With low knitting you get a very nice compact result but it is easy to work it using different and elaborate stitches as well.

With the loom: we worked the yarn with comb-loom 40:10 (4 threads/cm). Not suitable in warp but extremely interesting in weft for special effects, especially in combination with other yarns with softer hand. We have also tested a 30:10 (3 yarns/cm) comb-layered loom as well. In fact, the yarn if warped more sparsely allows for a more balanced and easy to work cloth. We therefore tend to recommend not to weave it on small looms where there is very little distance between the two beams.

Tips for working and care.

Our colors generally have high light fastness and wash fastness. Exceptions are fluorescent colors, which have low light fastness and may release color in the presence of alkaline or harsh soaps and with prolonged washing. The same applies to dark, bright colors. In all these cases, it is essential to test a small sample before starting the project, especially if these materials are combined with raw or light-colored fibers. In any case, it is always a good idea to dry artifacts away from direct sunlight, preferably in semi-shade.

A practical tip: Buying balls or spools of different baths can cause what is known as the barred effect: subtle variations in shade that seem invisible when comparing balls and spools, but become apparent once worked. Therefore, always be sure to buy some yarn in excess of what is needed for your project. We will be sure to send you spools and balls of the same lot.

Live colors.
Because colors may vary depending on your screen settings, we recommend that you purchase our Color Chart to check them live before placing your final order.
