OUTLET – EXTRA FINE CARDED MERINO WOOL

Price range: $6.73 through $51.80

Carded extra fine merino wool is a natural fiber obtained through a carding process that arranges the fibers in a soft, airy manner, creating a soft, voluminous texture. This preparation differs from combing in tops, in which the fibers are instead combed and aligned in parallel to produce a more compact and regular web. Both types offer specific performance depending on the technique used: carded wool is particularly recommended for workings that require softness and ease of shaping.

Outlet Products
Products in the outlet are offered at a reduced price because they have characteristics that do not fully meet our quality standards. They remain fully workable, however.

Availability and packaging
Our extra fine carded merino wool is available in packs of 100 g, 500 g, 1 kg, by color. Each package has a natural tolerance of ±3%. The different packages are designed for both those who need small quantities and those who need large quantities and/or want to save money. The packages are generally vacuum-packed, reducing volume and lowering shipping costs. Don’t worry: once opened, the wool returns to its original, fluffy volume without any loss of quality.

Extra fine carded merino wool.
Composition: 100% wool
Microning: approximately 19 microns.
Package weight has a physiological tolerance of +/- 3%.

Wool fiber, particularly merino fiber, is prized for its natural structure composed of keratin, an elastic and tough protein that gives the fiber unique characteristics:

  • High elasticity and resilience, which help the material maintain its shape over time
  • Excellent ability to absorb moisture without being wet to the touch
  • Natural thermoregulation, ideal for all seasons
  • Excellent plushability, due to the presence of microscopic scales on the fiber surface

The fineness of the wool, measured in microns, directly affects the softness and quality of processing: finer fibers result in softer fibers on the skin and allow for more even and precise spinning. For this reason, extra fine wools are particularly suitable for high-level spinning, weaving and felting projects.

Also being a fiber of natural and animal origin, extra fine merino wool is biodegradable and renewable, a conscious choice for those who wish to work with environmentally friendly materials without sacrificing softness, strength and versatility.

Our extra fine merino wool comes from selected South American farms particularly from countries such as Argentina, Uruguay and Chile, areas with a long tradition of sheep farming and high quality standards in textile fiber production. In these regions, the practice of mulesing is not widespread and, in fact, merino wool is naturally mulesing-free. This means that animals are raised according to methods that do not involve this intervention, thanks in part to local climatic and environmental conditions that reduce the risk of parasitic infestations responsible for its introduction in other areas of the world.

South American merino wool is valued for:

  • Fiber fineness and uniformity, ideal for spinning and felting
  • Good elasticity and strength, which facilitate processing
  • Consistent high quality through genetic selection programs and controls throughout the supply chain
  • Ethical origin, with increasing attention to animal welfare and sustainability

Our merino wool is mulesing-free, meaning it comes from farms that do not practice mulesing, a surgical procedure used in some parts of the world to prevent parasitic infestations in sheep. The choice to use wool from supply chains that exclude this practice reflects our commitment to animal welfare and more responsible farm management.

The dyes used for our products meet the requirements of the OEKO-TEX standard, which guarantees the control and limitation of substances potentially harmful to human health and the environment.
Fiber dyeing is carried out in our dyehouse in Italy, in compliance with current European regulations on chemicals and environmental safety, including the REACH Regulation (EC No. 1907/2006), which governs the registration, evaluation, authorization and restriction of chemical substances.
Operating within the European Union also entails compliance with additional provisions on environmental protection and textile product safety, such as the CLP Regulation (EC No. 1272/2008), relating to the classification, labeling and packaging of substances and mixtures. This regulatory framework ensures that dyeing processes are conducted according to high standards of safety, traceability and environmental responsibility, offering a reliable product for both the end user and the environment.

It is perfect for theneedle felting, forwater felting and for spinning.

Because colors may vary depending on the settings of the monitor or device being used, we recommend that you purchase our Color Folder to check the shades live before placing your final order. Want to check the quality of the material? Choose our Sample Box

CAUTION: All of our colors generally exhibit high lightfastness and wash fastness. However, fluorescent colors (80's collection), in addition to having a lower lightfastness, may also suffer significant color loss in the presence of alkaline or particularly aggressive soaps, as well as with prolonged processing or washing. This phenomenon can occur, to varying degrees, even with dark and particularly bright colors. For materials dyed with these shades, we always recommend that a preliminary processing and washing test be carried out on a small sample before making the final design. This precaution is essential, especially when dyed materials are combined with unbleached or light-colored fibers.
Finally, to best preserve the colors, it is recommended that artifacts not be dried in direct sunlight, but in a shady place.
