NEEDLE FELTING PAD

The needle felting base is an essential tool in the needle felting technique, designed to provide stable and secure support when processing carded wool. Made of high-density foam material, its main function is to absorb needle pressure, protecting both the working surface and the tip of the needles themselves.
During the felting process, needles are repeatedly inserted into the fiber to compact and shape it. Without a proper base, the needle movement would continue past the wool layer, damaging the work surface and accelerating tool wear. The base therefore acts as a controlled stopping element, allowing the needle to penetrate the fiber without going beyond it.
The closed-cell foam structure also allows for slight compression of the material during processing: this helps keep the fiber stable and facilitates the progressive compaction process typical of needle felting. In this way, the base is not just a passive support, but an integral part of controlling the technical gesture.
