Cod. 9019

More than a yarn, it is vitamin C.

Summer is an ode to the season from which it takes its name. It is a cotton yarn designed to offer freshness, lightness and a natural hand suitable for warm weather. Its regular, clean structure makes it ideal for workings where stitch definition and breathability are key. The balanced composition of plant fibers and a small technical component results in a stable yarn that is easy to work with and pleasing to the touch, with uniform performance in both knitting and crochet. The result is an essential but high-performance material designed for summer projects and lightweight garments in direct contact with the skin.
But the real plus of Estate are the colors: degradé prints that create truly sophisticated effects.

Raw materials used in DHG's yarns are selected and purchased from areas of the world where each specific fiber expresses the best natural and performance qualities. Depending on the type, the fibers come from vocated and traditionally specialized regions, chosen to ensure high standards of purity, fineness and textile performance. Once selected, the fibers enter a transformation process that combines technical expertise and craftsmanship savoir-faire. In fact, yarns like Estate are made through careful twisting, largely carried out with an approach that is still strongly artisanal in the textile district of Prato, a historic international center for fiber processing.
This balance between global sourcing and local processing allows the characteristics of each fiber to be maximized, resulting in yarns that combine quality, identity and manufacturing tradition.

Ductile and flowing, soft and elastic, the yarn is easily and quickly worked with both needles and crochet hooks, both of which should be chosen with a certain consistency so that the stitches can be drawn and outlined perfectly in their shape and structure. It is worked with rather thick needles and crochet hooks: it is recommended to start with No. 5 for a compact and well-structured effect that leaves no room for transparencies, but you can go up in size and use No. 6, 6.5 and even 7 for lighter effects and playful transparencies. The end result is a surface that is precise and regular, flexible and consistent at the same time, capable of correctly maintaining shape with linearity both during processing and afterwards. One aspect we love is that the edges remain perfectly aligned, with a flawless shape.

It can also be worked on a frame.

With needles: the shaved knit remains flat, highlighting well the pattern of the stitches and the shading of the yarn, which in itself constitutes a decoration. Already during the execution, you can see how the work takes its final shape, for example in the case of working the parts of a trapeze dress. The shaved knit can be alternated by the stretched knit variant (cast 2 times the yarn on the iron for each knit and in the return iron drop the extra wrapped yarn) and other stitches and patterns that create transparencies, to lighten the weight of the yarn.Embossed stitches, ribs and fabric-like patterns that are too heavy are not recommended.

Withcrochet: in addition to low knitting, high knitting is recommended, also interspersed with chains. An interesting variation to the compact low knit is the low knit taken on the rib (that is, working in only one of the two loops of the knit underneath), which makes the work lighter and faster.

With the loom: we worked the yarn with a 24:10 (2.4 threads/cm) comb-loom, but a 20:10 (2 threads/cm) can also be used. It can be used in both warp and weft. The yarn is very elastic and durable. Although it tends a little bit to turn in on itself, it is easy to work with.

Tips for working and care.

Our colors generally have high light fastness and wash fastness. Exceptions are fluorescent colors, which have low light fastness and may release color in the presence of alkaline or harsh soaps and with prolonged washing. The same applies to dark, bright colors. In all these cases, it is essential to test a small sample before starting the project, especially if these materials are combined with raw or light-colored fibers. In any case, it is always a good idea to dry artifacts away from direct sunlight, preferably in semi-shade.

A practical tip: Buying balls or spools of different baths can cause what is known as the barred effect: subtle variations in shade that seem invisible when comparing balls and spools, but become apparent once worked. Therefore, always be sure to buy some yarn in excess of what is needed for your project. We will be sure to send you spools and balls of the same lot.
