SCOURED SILK COCOONS

Code 6896

Silk in its original state.

Price range: $7.04 through $54.52

Scoured silk cocoons represent a natural raw material with timeless appeal, a symbol of elegance and refinement in the world of textile fibers. Obtained from the cocoon of the silkworm and subjected to a degumming process that removes the surface sericin, these elements are softer, lighter and ready to be processed or used as a decorative component. Their unique texture and natural luster make them ideal for fiber art projects, textile decoration and artistic creations that require authentic materials rich in character.

Availability and packaging
Our scoured silk cocoons are available in 50 g, 100 g and 500 g packages per color. Each package has a natural tolerance of ±3%. The different packages are designed both for those who need small quantities and for those who need large quantities and/or want to save. For non-ECE shipments, the packages are vacuum-packed, reducing volume and lowering shipping costs. Don’t worry: once opened, the fiber returns to its original, fluffy volume with no loss of quality.

Pure silkworm cocoons.

The silk cocoon consists of a single continuous filament of protein fiber, composed mainly of fibroin, with a light but surprisingly strong structure. After degumming, the surface becomes softer and more opaque to the touch, maintaining the typical elasticity and flexibility of silk. The naturally oval shape and layered arrangement of the filaments give the cocoon stability and a distinctive texture.

Ripped silk cocoons come from the breeding of the silkworm (Bombyx mori), which is widespread mainly in Asia, particularly in China and other regions historically devoted to silkworm breeding. Silk production has millennia-old roots in these territories, where climate, tradition and technical expertise have made possible the development of a highly specialized and globally recognized supply chain.

Scoured silk cocoons find excellent application in water and needle felt, where their ability to compact with other natural fibers, such as wool, allows for textured and refined surfaces. In creative fields they are also used for textile art and decorative work.
