Thermoformable wool felt is a versatile and durable material that, thanks to a small percentage of polyester, can be shaped by heat and stably maintain the resulting shape. Its compact and uniform structure makes it easy to cut, sew and shape, without fraying. Due to the combination of natural fibers and dimensional stability, it is particularly suitable for three-dimensional creations, accessories, decorations and creative design projects that require precision and durability.
The wool used in the production of this felt comes from New Zealand and is the same blend used for our "Maori" wool. Thanks to a long pastoral tradition and well-established production standards, New Zealand wools are distinguished by their good workability and ability to ensure stable and uniform results over time. Because of these characteristics, they are particularly suitable for felt and creative applications that require fastness, durability and predictability of material.
Our New Zealand wool is mulesing-free, meaning it comes from farms that do not practice mulesing, a surgical procedure used in some areas of the world to prevent parasitic infestations in sheep. The choice to use wool from supply chains that exclude this practice reflects a concern for animal welfare and more responsible farm management.
The dyes used for our products meet the requirements of the OEKO-TEX standard, which guarantees the control and limitation of substances potentially harmful to human health and the environment.
Fiber dyeing is carried out in our dyehouse in Italy, in compliance with current European regulations on chemicals and environmental safety, including the REACH Regulation (EC no. 1907/2006), which governs the registration, evaluation, authorization and restriction of chemicals.
Operating within the European Union also entails compliance with additional environmental protection and textile safety regulations, such as the CLP Regulation (EC no. 1272/2008) on the classification, labeling and packaging of substances and mixtures. This regulatory framework ensures that dyeing processes are conducted according to high standards of safety, traceability and environmental responsibility, providing a reliable product for both the end user and the environment.
This felt can be used in the same way as a traditional felt (cut, sewn, glued) but also by taking advantage of its thermoformability.
Thermoformability is the ability of a material to be shaped through the application of heat and to stably maintain the resulting shape once cooled. In the case of felt, this characteristic makes it possible to create volumes, curves and three-dimensional structures easily and durably.
