How to knit an oversized unisex sweater with oblique braids

Today we share with you a tutorial for knitting a wonderful oversized sweater. Suitable for those first subtle autumn chills, when there is still no need to wear a coat and you want to simplly head out with a sweater . Or  on the other hand, even for the most intense colds, when instead you require a freezing temperature-proof sweater to put on under a coat.

The sweater is embellished with oblique braids on the front side and was designed purely as a garment for men. In reality, however, we see it as a unisex garment, as shown by the images in which you can see the sweater being worn by a man and a woman.

The sweater is made with our iconic, beloved and versatile Piuma yarn in pure merino wool. In the colour of Tuareg. But on the store you have the possibility to choose from numerous other shades both in solid colour and printed.

Now let's grab those needles and get knitting.

How to knit the front of the sweater with oblique braids

With no. 6 EU / 10 US needles cast on 62 stitches and work rib 1/1 for 5 cm / 2 ".

Change rows and distribute 10 increases on the first row.

Continue with the braid motifs. The braids are worked in the same way, but their oblique position is determined by a game of increases and decreases.

On the first round, define the position of the 3 braids. Then knit 4, purl 3, knit 8, purl 3, knit 8 and purl 3 and  knit all remaining stitches . At this point we should have a series of 5 groups of 8 knit stitches, of which the first, third and fifth, counting from right to left, will be our braids.

On the wrong side the stitches are worked as they appear. On the right sideyou will have to make the increases and decreases in each round.
