METHOD

The dress is knitted flat and consists of two pieces, the back and the front, which are sewn together at the sides. The straps are knitted as part of the back after completing the neckline.

How to knit the back of the striped dress

With knitting needles n° 2˝ EU / 1 US and Lobster color, cast on 133 (143, 155) stitches using the tubular cast-on method, then work 2 rows in tubular stitch.

Row 3: (purl 1, knit 1), repeat until the last stitch, purl 1
row 4: knit1, (purl 1, knit 1), repeat until the end of the row

Rows 3 and 4 establish the 1x1 rib for the bottom edge. Repeat these rows 2 more times, reaching row 8, which measures 2 cm / 0.8".

Continue in striped stockinette stitch for 198 (200, 204) rows, reaching row 206 (208, 212), measuring 60 (61, 62) cm / 24" (24.1", 24.4"). Now, continuing in striped stockinette stitch, begin shaping the armholes and neckline. To make the pattern easier to follow, the row count restarts from 1.

Row 1: bind off the first 2 (3, 4) stitches for the armhole, knit 63 (67, 71), bind off the next 3 (3, 5) stitches for the neckline, knit to end
row 2: bind off the first 2 (3, 4) stitches of the second side for the armhole, purl the remaining stitches of the second side. Leave the first side's stitches on a stitch holder
row 3: work a double decrease over the first 3 stitches (ssk, knit 1, pass the slipped stitch over), knit to the last 2 stitches, knit the last 2 stitches together
row 4: purl across
row 5: work a single decrease at the beginning of the row (ssk), knit to the last 2 stitches, knit the last 2 stitches together
row 6: purl across.

Rows 5 and 6 establish the striped stockinette stitch with a right-side neckline decrease and a left-side armhole decrease. Repeat for another 25 (27, 29) times, reaching row 56 (60, 64), which measures 16.5 (17.5, 18.5) cm / 6.5" (6.9", 7.3") from the start of the armhole and neckline shaping, with 8 stitches remaining on the needle.

Do not bind off. For the strap, continue in striped stockinette stitch for another 46 (40, 42) rows, until the strap measures 13.5 (11.5, 12.5) cm / 5.3" (4.5", 5"). Bind off.

Resume working the first side’s stitches and mirror the shaping.

How to knit the front of the striped dress

With knitting needle n° 2˝ EU / 1 US and Lobster color, cast on 133 (143, 155) stitches and work as for the back until row 206 (208, 212), measuring 60 (61, 62) cm / 24" (24.1", 24.4"). Now, still in striped stockinette stitch, begin shaping the armholes. The row count restarts from 1.

Row 1: bind off the first 2 (3, 4) stitches for the armhole, knit to end
row 2: bind off the first 2 (3, 4) stitches for the armhole, purl to end
row 3: work a single decrease at the beginning of the row (ssk), knit to the last 2 stitches, knit the last 2 stitches together
row 4: purl across.

Rows 3 and 4 establish the striped stockinette stitch with decreases at both sides for the armholes. Repeat for another 31 (32, 36) times, then knit 8 (10, 6) more rows without decreases, reaching row 74 (78, 82), which measures 22 (23, 24) cm / 8.7" (9", 9.4"), with 65 (71, 73) stitches remaining. Bind off.

Resume working the first side’s stitches and mirror the shaping.

How to assemble and finish the knitted dress
