Next up, in the second tutorial dedicated to our Bonatti yarn, is a top down double face raglan sleeve sweater. We opted for a double face sweater as this yarn has a soft handle and a knobbly look that really stands out. It\u2019s really nice on, both the right way and inside out, giving you two slightly different versions from the original texture of the yarn.<\/span><\/p>

This type of sweater is knitted in the round using circular needles, from top to bottom, in just once piece so it has the added <\/span>advantage of being seamless<\/span><\/strong>. From the collar the stitches are gradually increased until the sleeves that are left hanging to then be picked up later.<\/span><\/p>

The double face sweater is one size and just like the pom-pom hat, it\u2019s been created exclusively for us by the Knitting for Breakfast girls. For this garment they\u2019ve chosen three stitches: knit, purl and rib, so it\u2019s basic and easy enough for beginners too.<\/span><\/p>

Now though, let\u2019s start the tutorial for a double face raglan sleeve sweater. Once it\u2019s complete you\u2019ll see that it goes really well with either a loose skirt (like on our model) or a pair of skinny jeans.<\/span><\/p>

How to make a double face raglan sleeve sweater<\/h2>

MATERIALS<\/b><\/span>
Bonatti yarn<\/span><\/strong><\/a> col. <\/span>Graphite<\/span> 300 g \/ 10.6 oz
<\/span>Knitting needle<\/b> <\/span>n\u00b0 <\/span>8 EU \/ 11 US
<\/span>Knitting needle<\/b> <\/span>n\u00b0<\/span> <\/span><\/strong>5.5<\/span> EU \/ 9 US
<\/span>Cables 40, 60 and 100 cm
<\/span>Stitch markers: 1 for the start of the round, 3 for the increases of the
sleeves and 2 for the central motif.<\/span><\/p>

KNIT-CROCHET STITCHES USED <\/span> <\/b><\/span>
Knit<\/span>
Purl<\/span>
Rib 1\/1<\/u>:
all rounds knit 1 and purl 1 to the end of the round.<\/span>
Increases:<\/span><\/strong> knit front and back is advised.<\/span><\/p>

SIZE<\/b><\/span>
One – <\/span>loose fitting<\/span><\/strong><\/p>

Measurements:<\/span><\/strong>
Chest 134 cm
<\/span>Total height 45 cm
<\/span>Height of the underarm 23 cm
<\/span>Neck opening 30 cm
<\/span>Width of the top part of the sleeve 25 cm
<\/span>Length of the sleeve from underarm 37 cm<\/span><\/p>

METHOD
<\/span><\/b>Cast on 64 stitches with <\/span>n\u00b0 8 mm needles<\/span><\/strong>, place the <\/span>stitch marker at the start of the round<\/span><\/strong> and bind off in the round.<\/span><\/p>

From 1<\/span> to 3<\/span><\/b> round<\/b>: knit stitch<\/span>
round 4<\/span><\/strong>: Place <\/span>3 stitch markers for the increases<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span>
Carry out this passage like so:<\/span>
Start of round stitch marker<\/span><\/strong>, knit 8, <\/span>place stitch marker<\/span><\/strong>, knit 24, <\/span>place stitch marker<\/span><\/strong>, knit 8, <\/span>place stitch marker<\/span><\/strong>, knit 24.<\/span><\/p>

round 5<\/span><\/strong>: don\u2019t do the increases yet, but <\/span>place<\/span><\/strong> <\/span>2 stitch markers to delimit the central motif<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>

The front part in the middle is purled. These two place markers are needed to delimit the <\/span>16 stitches<\/span><\/strong> that need to be purled on the front of the sweater. We advise using different coloured stitch markers to those for the increase so as not to get mixed up.<\/span><\/p>

Go ahead and place the stitch markers as so:<\/span><\/strong>
Knit 8, (pass the stitch marker) knit 4, <\/span>place the stitch marker (different coloured one) for the central motif<\/span><\/strong>, <\/span>purl<\/span><\/strong> 16, <\/span>place the second stitch marker (different coloured one) for the central motif<\/span><\/strong>, knit 4 (pass the stitch marker) knit 8, (pass the stitch marker) knit 24.<\/span><\/p>

Now we\u2019re going to do the increases to shape the sleeves, the back and the front of the sweater. The increases are always done before and after each stitch marker<\/span><\/strong>. (excluding the two stitch markers for the central motif)<\/span><\/p>

round 6: increase 1<\/span><\/strong>, knit stitch until 1 stitch before the stitch marker, <\/span>increase 1<\/span><\/strong>, (pass the stitch marker) <\/span>increase 1<\/span><\/strong>, knit stitch until the stitch marker of the the central motif, purl the 16 stitches, (pass the stitch marker of the central motif), knit stitch until 1 stitch before the stitch marker, <\/span>increase 1<\/span><\/strong>, (pass the stitch marker), <\/span>increase 1<\/span><\/strong>, knit stitch until 1 stitch before the stitch marker, <\/span>increase 1,<\/span><\/strong> (pass the stitch marker), <\/span>increase 1<\/span><\/strong>, knit stitch until 1 stitch before the stitch marker, <\/span>increase 1<\/span><\/strong>. <\/span>(=8 stitches increased in total)<\/span><\/strong>
round 7<\/span><\/strong>: knit all stitches apart from the 16 purled ones that are \u2026.by two stitch markers of the central motif.<\/span><\/p>

Repeat rounds 6 and 7 another 21 times<\/span><\/u><\/strong><\/p>

Now, the work so far consists of: 168 increases and 240 stitches in total on the needles.<\/span><\/p>

In the next round leave the sleeves hanging as follows<\/span><\/strong>:<\/span><\/p>

Leave <\/span>52 stitches<\/span><\/strong> on a thread (first sleeve), <\/span>knit 26<\/span><\/strong>, <\/span>purl the 16 stitches<\/span><\/strong>, then <\/span>knit another 26<\/span><\/strong>, leave on hold the next <\/span>52 stitches<\/span><\/strong> (second sleeve) and <\/span>knit another 68<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>

Note<\/span><\/strong>: take away the three stitch markers for the increases, only keeping the stitch marker for the start of the round and the two for the central motif.<\/span><\/p>


<\/p>

Now we\u2019re going to work on the body, on the needles there are 136 stitches in total<\/span><\/strong>. To make it easier we\u2019ll restart the numbering of the rounds from number 1.<\/span><\/p>

Round 1<\/b>: knit 26, purl 16, knit 94<\/span><\/p>

Repeat the <\/span>round 1 for 40 rounds<\/span><\/u><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>

Rib stitch 1×1 the last <\/span>6 rounds<\/span><\/strong><\/p>

Bind off loosely.<\/span><\/p>

How to knit the raglan sleeves<\/h2>

Pick up the <\/span>52 stitches<\/span><\/strong> left on hold previously to start working on the sleeves as so:<\/span>
Knit the first 6 rounds<\/span>
<\/b>round 7<\/span><\/strong>: knit all the stitches and decrease 2 stitches.<\/span>
Knit another 6 rounds<\/span><\/strong> (to get to round 13)<\/span><\/p>

round 14<\/span><\/strong>: knit all stitches and decrease 2. (48 stitches on the needles)<\/span>
From the 15<\/span> to 19<\/span> round: knit<\/span><\/strong> (5 rounds)<\/span>
round 20<\/span><\/strong>: knit all stitches and decrease 2 stitches.<\/span>
Repeat rounds 15 to 20 another 6 times<\/span><\/u><\/strong> (36 rounds to get to round 56)<\/span><\/p>

On the needles there are 34 stitches.<\/span><\/p>

From the 57 to the 59 round: <\/span><\/strong>knit all stitches<\/span>
round 60: <\/span><\/strong>knit and decrease 2 stitches.<\/span><\/p>

Now on the needles there are<\/span> 32 stitches.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>

Switch to 5,5mm needles<\/span><\/u><\/p>

Knit one round<\/span>
Rib stitch 1×1 for 12 rounds.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>

Bind off loosely.<\/span><\/p>

Repeat it all for the other sleeve.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>
