The second piece made by the <\/span>Knitting For Breakfast<\/span><\/a><\/strong> girls is an incredibly light almost weightless top-down long sleeved boat neck sweater with eyelets.<\/span><\/p>\n

What we like about it the most is, it seems to be covered with loads of small flowers and it has a shininess about it that looks like dragonflies! The credit of this gleam goes to the knitting and the chosen yarn: our pure cotton Lincoln col. Mauve.<\/span><\/p>


<\/span><\/p>

Elisa is wearing the sweater along with a pair of white shorts but even full length jeans would look great on these remaining hot summer days.<\/span><\/p>

This type of stitch is knitted in the round using circular needles from top to bottom. As it\u2019s worked as just once piece it has the huge <\/span>advantage of being seamless<\/span><\/strong>. From the neck the increases are distributed evenly throughout the yolk until you get to the sleeves that are placed on hold on a thread to then be picked up later.<\/span>

How to make a round yoke top-down sweater<\/h2>

MATERIALS<\/span>
<\/b><\/span>Lincoln yarn<\/span><\/strong><\/a> col. Mauve 340 g \/ 12 oz<\/span>
Circular needle<\/a> <\/b>n\u00b0 6 EU \/ 10 US
<\/span>Cable <\/b>40 and 80 cm \/ <\/b><\/span>15.7″ and 31.5″<\/span>
Stitch markers<\/span><\/strong>
<\/b><\/span><\/p>

GAUGE
<\/b><\/span>10 cm x 10 cm \/ 4″ x 4″
<\/span>14 stitches x 24 rounds<\/span><\/p>\n

KNIT STITCHES USED<\/span><\/b>
Rice stitch<\/span><\/u>:<\/span>
round 1: knit 1 and purl 1, repeat to the end of the round<\/span>
round 2: purl 1 and knit 1, repeat to the end of the round.<\/span>
Lace stitch<\/span><\/u>:<\/span>

Note<\/b>: i<\/span>f you want to make a bigger size, the advice is to continue increasing the yoke to the desired size, making sure you keep up with the multiple counts of the chart. Instead, to make it smaller, don\u2019t carry out the final increases and stop before, this will also make the yoke shorter.<\/span><\/p>

Here\u2019s what to do:<\/h3>\n

Cast on 90 stitches with <\/span> <\/b>n\u00b0 6 EU \/ 10 US<\/span>, place stitch markers at the start of the round and knit in round.<\/span><\/p>


<\/span><\/p>

From<\/span> round 1 to round 3<\/span><\/b>: rice stitch<\/span>
round 4 and 5<\/b>: knit all stitches<\/span>
round 6<\/b>: knit 9 stitches and increase 1. Repeat to the end of the round (10 increased stitches in total).<\/span><\/p>

Now on the needles there\u2019ll be 100 stitches.<\/span><\/p>\n

Round 7<\/b>: knit all stitches<\/span>
from round 8<\/span> to<\/span><\/b> round 20<\/b>: follow the chart from round 1 to round 13 (to be repeated 10 times horizontally)<\/span>
from round 21<\/span> to round 23<\/span><\/b>: knit all stitches<\/span>
round 24<\/b>: knit 2 and increase 1. Repeat to the end of the round (50 increased stitches in total).<\/span><\/p>

Now they\u2019ll be 150 stitches on the needles.<\/span><\/p>


<\/span><\/p>

From round 25 <\/span>to round 29<\/span><\/b>: knit all stitches<\/span>
from round 30 <\/span>to round 42<\/span><\/b>: follow the chart from round 1 to round 13 (to be repeated 15 times horizontally)<\/span>
round 43<\/span> and to round 44<\/span><\/b>: knit all stitches<\/span>
round 45<\/b>: knit 3 and increase 1. Repeat to the end of the round (50 increased stitches in total).<\/span><\/p>

Now they\u2019ll be 200 stitches on the needles.<\/span><\/p>

From round 46 to the 49 round<\/b>: knit all stitches<\/span>
round 50<\/b>: knit 10 increase 1. Repeat to the end of the round (20 increased stitches in total).<\/span><\/p>

Now they\u2019ll be 220 stitches on the needles.<\/span><\/p>

Round 51<\/b>: knit all stitches<\/span>
from round 52 to round 55<\/b>: follow the chart for the first 4 rounds only (from round 1 to round 4)<\/span>
round 56 and 57<\/b>: knit all stitches<\/span>
round 58<\/b>: knit 11 stitches and increase 1. Repeat to the end of the round (20 increased stitches in total).<\/span><\/p>

Now they\u2019ll be 240 stitches on the needles.<\/span><\/p>

Round 59<\/b>: knit all stitches.<\/span><\/p>

Now place the sleeves on hold as so:
<\/span>round 60<\/b>: place 45 stitches on hold on a thread (first sleeve), knit 75, put 45 stitches on a thread (second sleeve) knit another 75 stitches.<\/span><\/p>


<\/span><\/p>

Now start working on the body, you\u2019ll have 150 stitches on the needles.<\/span><\/p>

From round 61<\/span> to <\/span>round<\/span> 63<\/span><\/b>: knit all stitches
<\/span>from <\/span>round<\/span> 64 <\/span>to <\/span>round<\/span> 76<\/span><\/b>: follow the chart from line 1 to line 13 to be repeated 15 times horizontally)
<\/span>from <\/span>round<\/span> 77<\/span> to <\/span>round<\/span> 82<\/span><\/b>: knit all stitches<\/span><\/p>

Repeat from rounds 64 to rounds 82 another 2 times (to get to round 120)<\/span><\/p>

Rice stitch 5 rounds.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bind off softly.<\/span><\/p>

How to make the sleeves of a top-down sweater<\/h3>

Pick up the 45 stitches left previously on hold and place a stitch marker at the beginning of the round and add 3 stitches.<\/span><\/p>

Now for the sleeves as follows:<\/span>
from round 1 to round 5:<\/b> knit all stitches<\/span>
from round 6 to round 18<\/b>: knit 4, follow the chart from line 1 to line 13 (to be repeated 4 times horizontally) finish the round with 4 knit stitches<\/span>
from round 19<\/span> to round 24<\/span><\/b>: knit all stitches<\/span>
from round 25 <\/span>to round 37<\/span><\/b>: knit 4, follow the chart from line 1 to line 13 (to be repeated 4 times horizontally) finish the round with 4 knit stitches<\/span>
from round 38 <\/span>to round 40<\/span><\/b>: knit all stitches<\/span>
round 41<\/b>: knit all stitches and decrease 2<\/span>
