Dyer, seamstress and passionate about textiles, Candice began her apprenticeship in the mist of the old fabrics of the family flea market in France. After training as a stylist, she is interested in and studies natural dyeing and linked the world of color to her knowledge of old canvases.

Shibori with indaco and wool gauze

MATERIALS
Wool gauze raw white, 1.65 cm height and 1.70 lenght
Clothpins
Chopstick
String
Ready indigo vat – 15 liter
Basin
White vinegar

1 Turn the vat and wait until the surface becomes metalic again.

2 Set up your equipment.

3 Do a color test on a fabric sample.

4 Fold the fabric in half crosswise.

5 Fold a new strip of fabric across the width (about 11 cm). Continue with regular accordion style folds. You can get help using iron.

6 Place the chopsticks above and below the fabric. Tie very tightly on one side and the other.

7 Place the clothespins symmetrically (64 have been used in this example).

8 Soak for a few minutes in warm water.

9 Wring gently. Do not remove the sticks nor the clothpins.

10 Soak for one minute into the indigo vat. Take it off and wring again.

12 After these steps, leave to turn it completely blue. Then immerse in cold water with white vinegar for 15/20 minutes. Rinse.

13 It’s now time to remove the sticks and the clothespins, time to discover the patterns !

14 Handwash carefully with gentle soap.

15 Let the fabric air dry and sheltered from the sun.
