Today we want to talk to you about Tencel Lyocell fibre. A fibre that today is considered one of the most eco-friendly in the world. Before we explain why it is one of the most eco-friendly fibers, we want to tell you that this fibre, in addition to being a lustrous fibre is also very resistant, breathable, and pleasant to the touch. It is also a fibre that can be considered 100% biodegradable.
Tencel Lyocell fibre was first sighted on the market in 1992. It is a fibre produced from the cellulose of trees, in our case from eucalyptus trees in FSC certified forests; however, there are some differences in the way the cellulose is processed in respect to the viscose production cycle, a fibre that is also cellulosic in origin.
In truth, this fibre’s development was motivated by the fact that it distinguished itself from the production of viscous, aiming above all to be as less polluting as possible. As it happens, thanks to the difference in the processing process of Tencel Lyocell, it is possible to recover 99% of the solvent used to create the fibre. At the same time, there is also a lower consumption of electricity, and not as much water is needed for processing.
The fibre that comes out of the production cycle is perfect for making yarns and fabrics, it is 100% biodegradable, gentle on the skin, resistant, breathable, and thanks to its properties it creates an environment unfavourable for bacterial growth. Furthermore, thanks to the origins of the fibre, Tencel Lyocell is classified as vegan friendly, this is because no animals are used in the production phase.
For us it is also very important to reduce emissions, so it is for this reason we also looked for a manufacturer that carries this trademark. Tencel Lyocell is certified Carbon Neutral.
