The travelling exhibition Soul of Felt is going to be hosted at the DHG headquarters from January, 20th to February 24th. There are going to be works from Russia as well as other Easter European countries. The journey started off in Germany, in the town of Siegburg, and it continued to Almere, in the Netherlands. The exhibition is the result of the collaboration between JungenForumKunst, Ricarda Aßmann, Nina Demidova and Julia Struzh.
This exhibition is a natural progression from the previous edition in 2015, called “FeltPassion”. In addition to the women artists who were part of that exhibition, new ones were added this year, who contributed with equally interesting works. Thanks to social media and the internet, felt and the now blooming felt art are gaining more and more importance, not only in everyday life, but also in the art world.
Some of the works in the exhibition were made with precious fibers such as camel hair, alpaca, cashmere, and yak fiber. The exhibition primarily intends to examine how felt is not only a perfect medium for making art, but also an ideal companion for our everyday life. Indeed, ever since it was invented felt was transformed into clothing or even into real mobile homes, yurtas. So, in the exhibition you’ll find not only extraordinary pieces of fiber art, but also dresses, shoes and hats, all strictly made of felt.
