Molla Mills is a much loved, popular Finnish crocheter, however, there’s much more to Molla than a renowned advocate of contemporary crochet. She’s a teacher, a designer, a writer and a keen traveller. She’s a woman who oozes positive energy and is really cheerful. A bit bon ton, a bit pin up. She looks like she’s just stepped out of a time portal from the 50s.
Molla told us that her passion for craftsmanship came about at home as her mum has always been a great inspiration to her. In fact, she has attended courses on textile, sewing and knitting and crochet since she was young, meeting skilled craftsmen along the way. She’s always had hardworking and intrigued hands. Fascinated by turning material into something nice and useful, she made crafting her lifestyle. For Molla Mills, creating something with her own hands is really gratifying and then she went on to tell us that we mustn’t forget the ecological aspect of creating things by hand. Crafting allows us to choose the material to use and to be able to create something that’s been made well and long lasting.
We contemplated getting in touch with Molla Mills for a long time, then, one day we just went for it which saw the start of a wonderful collaboration! Molla instantly fell in love with our yarns, their colours and their composition and created a little collection.
The first piece we’ve got for you is Kaakeli, a two-tone tote bag, inspired by a Moroccan tile and made with our Sailorman – which has had new colours added to its collection – and Lincoln too.
We’re definitely going to continue following Molla Mills, as we love her approach to crochet and life itself! She’s an original and fascinating crafter, a fan of eco-friendly materials and has clear ideas about the meaning of craftsmanship in today’s world. Here’s her always up-to-date and bursting with great content Instagram profile.
