Francesco Rosa is the artisan yarn designer behind Dark Omen Yarn. After completing an important 4-year apprenticeship at the artistic yarn studio La Bien Aimée in Paris, hopened his independent dyeing laboratory in 2020, in Spotorno in the province of Savona.

He discovered his love for yarns during his years at university, when his wish to learn to knit appeared in him. During a workshop by Stephen West in Paris he got to know the world of hand-dyed yarns, and from there began his personal adventure that continues today. An adventure that allows him to bring to life all the colourful ideas that cross is mind.

The colours he creates are inspired by different universes. First an foremost that of video games, a great passion of his since he was a child. Another fundamental source of inspiration is Nature, a theme that also allows him to form wonderful connections with his clients.

For DHG, Francesco has produced a collection of our hand-dyed Piuma Superwash yarn. We are extremely excited about it too!

These creations are rooted in Nature, as in the case of Orange Pulp and Zen. But we also find a tribute to video games, like in White Magic, his favourite of the collection because each skein is unique while maintaining the same pattern in the colour arrangement. Amongst the collection we also find two particular colours, Aquarius and Capricorn, which will be part of a wider collection by Francesco dedicated to the zodiac signs.

In his free time Francesco knits a lot whilst watching films and TV series (very often horror films). He also has a great passion for foreign languages, in fact he has a degree in Japanese and has been studying Turkish for a couple of years.

Francesco is a pragmatic man who prefers to think rationally and positively about his future rather than to harbour pipeline dreams. This attitude of his can be seen, in our opinion, even in the dyes of his yarns. All with their own soul ready for sudden changes of course and evolutions.
