Lisa Klakulak

Lisa Klakulak is a textile artist originating from Detroit. Since she was a child, she was attracted to the idea of transforming materials through manual manipulation and was also stimulated artistically by her mother. She gradually experimented with textile dyeing, sewing, bead weaving, and eventually she started working with felt. After completing her Bachelor of Arts in 1993, Lisa started travelling around the world, teaching, winning prizes and awards, displaying her work in solo exhibitions and expanding her personal horizons.

Lisa is very perceptive of the human soul and its vulnerability. Her works often remind one of shields, protecting that intimate and delicate emotional side. That is one of the reasons why we fell in love with her art: because she is always trying to offer protection and freedom to the people who are lucky enough to come across one of her works.

For us, Lisa has made a wonderful felt chest piece, decorated with small pieces of beach glass from Murano, and enriched with embroidery. The work is called “Reparation” and shows how the artist’s back has inevitably been shaped by the years she has spent bending over her work.

Lisa’s piece is also part of DHG’s initiative for the Meyer Children’s Hospital. It will be sold for charity and the proceeds will be donated to the cancer ward at Meyer Children’s Hospital in Florence. You can find the artist’s work for sale on dhgshop.
