How to make an intarsia scarf

Today we’re going to learn how to make an intarsia scarf. Gorgeous to look at and super nice to wear as it’s made with our Piuma yarn in pure merino wool. Here it’s in the colour Marigold, but on the shop, you can choose from tons of other colours.

How to make an intarsia scarf

Knitting needle n° 8 EU / 11 US

KNIT STITCHES USED
Garter stitch:
knit all rows
Stockinette stitch:
knit 1 row and purl 1 row.
Rib 1/1:
knit 1 and purl 1, in the next row knit 1 on the knitted stitch and purl 1 on the purled stitch.
Double rice stitch:
It’s done on a multiple of two stitches.
Row 1: knit 1 and purl 1 for all the row
row 2: work the stitches as they appear
row 3: purl 1 and knit 1 for all the row
row 4: work the stitches as they appear
row 5: start again from row 1.

Total length 2 m  / 78.7"

METHOD
Cast on 55 stitches with n° 6 EU 7/ 10 US needles.
Work rib stitch 1/1 for 7 rounds.
Proceed with n° 8 EU / 11 US needles the 2 edge stitches are the first and the last ones of the row.

Row 8: knit 2 edge stitches, knit 1 and purl 1 for all the row
row 9: 2 edge stitches, knit 1 and purl 1 as they appear
row 10: 2 edge stitches, purl 1 on the knitted 1 and knit 1 on the purled one for all the row
row 11: 2 edge stitches, knit 1 and purl 1 as they appear
row 12: knit 2 edge stitches, knit 1 and purl 1 for all the row
row 13: 2 edge stitches, knit 1 and purl 1 as they appear
row 14: 2 edge stitches, purl 1 on the knitted 1 and knit 1 on the purled one for all the row
row 15: 2 edge stitches, knit 1 and purl 1 as they appear
row 16: knit all
row 17: 2 edge stitches then purl the row
row 18: knit all
row 19: knit all
row 20: knit all
row 21: 2 edge stitches then purl the row
row 22: knit all
row 23: knit all
row 24: knit all
row 25: 2 edge stitches then purl the row
row 26: knit all
row 27: knit all
row 28: knit all

Pick up from row 8 to row 32, repeat the pattern 9 times.

row 268: 2 edge stitches, knit 1 and purl 1 as they appear
row 269: 2 edge stitches, purl 1 on the knitted one and knit 1 on the purled one for all the row
row 270: 2 edge stitches, knit 1 and purl 1 as they appear
row 271: 2 edge stitches, knit 1 and purl 1 for all the row
row 272: 2 edge stitches, knit 1 and purl 1 as they appear
row 273: 2 edge stitches, purl 1 on the knitted one and knit 1 on the purled one for all the row
row 274: 2 edge stitches, knit 1 and purl 1 as they appear.

From row 275 to 281 rib stitch 1/1 and bind off the stitches (7 rounds).
