Bubble stitch tutorial: how to make a clutch bag

To end the pieces created using our Charleston in style, is a crochet clutch made with the trendiest stitch of the moment: the bubble stitch! Giving the clutch a fluffy but compact look. We’ve opted for 3 colours but you decide to do it however takes your fancy – whether it be just one plain colour or multi-coloured and maybe you could vary the thickness of the stripes.

KNIT-CROCHET STITCHES USED
Chain stitch
Bubble stitch:
double crochet 5 into the arc below. Pull the hook out and insert it into the first of the 5 worked stitches. Hook the stitch you’ve just pulled out and pass it through the loop. Bind it all off with a chain.

GAUGE
10cmX10cm = 9 bubble stitches X 8 bubble stitches

METHOD
The bag is worked as one piece in a circular manner.

Taking the col. Moon cast on 2 chains of 55 stitches.
round 1: using the bubble stitch alternate making the chains, make one miss one and so on to create 26 bubbles, rotate around the initial chain working the empty chains with the bubble stitch for a total of 52 bubbles.
round 2: work the bubble stitch in each arc below until the end of the round to get 52 bubbles. Repeat these 2 rounds for the whole length of the bag (16 rounds) alternating the colours like so: 2 rounds of col. Moon, 2 rounds of col. Gold, 1 round of col. Emerald, 3 rounds of col. Incense, 1 round of col. Moon, 1 round of col. Gold and 6 rounds of col. Moon.

Finish off the edges with 2 rounds of single crochet.

Complete the clutch by sewing on the zip using the back stitch.

What do you reckon? We think the mix of colourways together with the bubble stitch creates an explosive effect and can’t think of a better project to wrap up the capsule collection dedicated to Charleston. By the way, if you haven’t already, try creating the necklace and the earrings too and stand out from the rest!
