METHOD

The sweater is knitted flat and consists of four pieces: the back, front, and sleeves. The neckline is worked afterward, after sewing one shoulder.

How to knit the back of the crop sweater

Using knitting needles n° 7 EU / 10½ US, cast on 55 (61, 65) stitches.

Row 1: Repeat (1 knit stitch, 1 purl stitch) until the last stitch, knit the last stitch
row 2: Purl the first stitch, repeat (1 knit stitch, 1 purl stitch) until the end of the row.

These two rows establish the 1x1 rib for the bottom edge; repeat them 4 more times, reaching row 10, which measures 6 cm / 2.4".

Row 11: knit 7 (7, 8) stitches, repeat [M1, knit 7 (8, 8) stitches] until the last 6 (6, 9) stitches, M1, then knit the remaining 6 (6, 9) stitches
row 12: purl across.

You now have 62 (68, 72) stitches. Continue in stockinette stitch for 60 (64, 66) rows, reaching row 72 (76, 78), which measures 48 (50, 52) cm / 19" (19.7", 20.5"). Bind off.

How to knit the front of the crop sweater

Using knitting needles 7 EU / 10½ US, cast on 55 (61, 65) stitches and work as for the back until row 64 (68, 70), measuring 42.5 (44.5, 46.5) cm / 16.7" (17.5", 18.3").

Row 65 (69, 71): knit 23 (25, 25) stitches, bind off the next 16 (18, 22) stitches for the neckline, knit the remaining 23 (25, 25) stitches
row 66 (70, 72): purl the 23 (25, 25) stitches on the second side. Now continue only on this second side, leaving the first side’s stitches on a stitch holder
row 67 (71, 73): knit the first 2 stitches, decrease 1 stitch for the neckline by working an SSK, knit to the end of the row
row 68 (72, 74): purl across
rows 69-72 (73-76, 75-78): repeat rows 67 and 68 (71 and 72, 75 and 76) two more times. Bind off.

Resume working on the first side’s stitches and knit as for the second side, mirroring the shaping.

How to knit the sleeves of the crop sweater

Start with the right sleeve.

Using knitting needles n° 7 EU / 10½ US, cast on 27 (29, 31) stitches.

Row 1: repeat (1 knit stitch, 1 purl stitch) until the last stitch, knit the last stitch
row 2: purl the first stitch, repeat (1 knit stitch, 1 purl stitch) until the end of the row.

These two rows establish the 1x1 rib for the cuff; repeat them 5 more times, reaching row 12, which measures 6.5 cm / 2.6".

Row 13: knit the first 4 (4, 5) stitches, repeat (knit 1, M1) until the last 3 (3, 5) stitches, knit the last 3 (3, 4) stitches
row 14: purl across.

You now have 47 (51, 53) stitches.

Continue in stockinette stitch for 32 (34, 40) rows, reaching row 46 (48, 50), which measures 31 (32, 33) cm / 12.2" (12.6", 13").

Bind off.

Knit the left sleeve as for the right sleeve, mirroring the shaping.

How to finish the crop sweater

Use mattress stitch for invisible seams. Sew one shoulder.

For the neckline, using knitting needles n° 7 EU / 10½ US, pick up an even number of stitches around the neckline. Work 6 rows in 1x1 rib, then bind off.

Sew the other shoulder and attach the neckline. Set in the sleeves, aligning the top edge with the shoulder seam. Sew the underarm and side seams.
