For this third instalment of the Penelope Pop DHG Mood, I have decided to present to you Deluxe Faux Leather and Thermoformable Felt placemats.
A really easy but definitely impressive project. It is a simple idea that you can use to decorate your table. Or since the Christmas holidays are nearly upon us, for an original gift. Here is how to make it.
METHOD
Start by cutting out the felt in the size you want your placemat to have. I chose to make it 35x50cm, but you can choose a different size.
Keeping in mind the measurements that you chose for the felt placemat. Outline and cut the faux leather into stripes of different lengths, but always long enough to go over the edge of the placemat. As you will see, I am going to position them parallel to the shorter side of the felt placemat. So my stripes are between 37 and 40 cm in length. The width of the stripes are also different. I feel that gives the piece more character. Some stripes are 1cm wide, others are 2.5, others are 3cm. On our website you’ll find faux leather ribbons of different widths. So if you want to save some time and be sure to have nicely cut straight stripes, you can just go ahead and buy the different sizes to alternate.
Once you have prepared all the stripes, I recommend you lay them out on top of the felt placemats you will realize next. Do you like it? This is will be the final result. So if there is something you do not like, this is the right time to make any changes.
Once you have got the layout you want, “outline” the perimeter with some pins. As you will see in the next step, they will help you cut in a straight line.
Now, cut the felt to make some slits through which you’ll slip the faux leather stripes.
Make a cut for each of your stripes, and them position them by running them through the slits.

I like it so much! I will surely make more, all in different color to match the taste of each of my guests.
