DIY Christmas - DHG style

Often, those who stop in to visit us tell us that we are just like one big family here at DHG. And it is very true; so true that, just like ever respectable family, we will be celebrating Christmas 2015 with a special feast. We will trim the tree and light a fire in the fireplace. We will cook and set the table in style. Each of us will have a stocking full of presents. However, since there are a lot of us, the preparations have already begun, and along the way, we came up with some DIY ideas that we want to share with you. So here we are with our DIY Christmas - DHG style.

A table setting for a very refined DIY Christmas

Many times when we talk about DIY projects, we realize that most people think that the term "do it yourself" is the same thing as mediocre. Instead, that is absolutely not true. All you need are a few simple ideas that anyone can do to give a homemade touch to a table setting and make it not only refined but also welcoming and one of a kind.

For our table we started off by deciding on a style and colors for our Christmas theme (a professional habit we have to admit!), opting for a classic Christmas theme where white, green and red are king. With this theme in mind, we created a table setting just like us: chic yet simple with a taste of Tuscany.

Snow white Ginori porcelain, immaculate linen napkins that my mother-in-law made for me (believe me, they are masterpieces) and that I only use for special occasions, a scattering of white stars made from our thermoformable felt in the color Milk and 3 bonsai Christmas trees as centerpieces.

For the sake of honesty, we didn't do it all ourselves. We entrusted this task to the amazing Gianluca who, at his store Heaven Flowers (located in the city center and is a true treasure), creates true works of art every day. He contributed the creativity and we contributed the materials with which he decorated the trees: felt and wool trimmings in true DHG style.

We used the same materials to create the place cards: fragrant pine branches and felt letters. A simple, quick and inexpensive idea.

A light-filled tree with one special decoration

Last year we truly had a lot of fun making lots of gorgeous creations for our Christmas tree with the precious help of Assunta, so this year we decided to change styles a bit, so we trimmed the tree only with lots of minuscule lights.
The one decoration that we allowed ourselves is also in our DIY Christmas theme and was created for us by a new friend. Ylenia (aka Ohioja) is a true magician with Amigurumi. Using this technique and our Piuma yarn, she created the maskot of Christmas this year: a little bear with a red beret that we already know that all of the DHG children will fight over!

We used it to trim the tree but of course it can be used in thousands of ways: as a place marker, as a gift, or (on a larger scale) as a pillow. In fact, using the Amigurumi technique, you can make lots of different fun thing. All you need is a crochet needle, beautiful yarn and lots of creativity. To learn more about this technique and about Ylenia, read our interview by Annalisa and let yourself get inspired. Christmas isn't quite knocking at the door so you still have time to make a maskot just like ours, right?

DIY Christmas Gift Boxes... what else?

Clearly there h ave to be presents! Otherwise, what kind of Christmas would it be? It doesn't matter if you are big or small, we make special packages for all! Gifts made with care and using DHG materials. I think they are little masterpieces. Take a look at the post we wrote specifically to present them one by one.

I almost forgot... Merry DIY Christmas!
